In order to share this printer across an RDP connection you must
  1. Install the printer as normal on the local machine
  2. Go to the www.hp.com website
  3. Download the HP LaserJet XPS Driver Update

  4. Switch the printer to use the above driver instead on the local machine
  5. Log out of the RDP connection and log back in
  6. The printer should appear/print as normal

Toshiba 2330c / 2040c

  1. Add printer via IP address
  2. Windows Update
  3. Choose Toshiba E-universal PCL6 driver

Local Printer Troubleshooting


Specifically this was done to force removal of an HP1022n that would not be uninstalled

1) Disconnect the usb cable from the printer
2) Uninstall the printer drivers from all programs
3) Also check for any traces of printer driver under Add/Remove programs in control panel and remove it
4) Reboot the system in safe mode
5) Delete the Hp folder under c:\program files. Also delete any other traces of Hp in the C:\ drive
6) Open regegit. Navigate to HKLM/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL SET/CONTROL/PRINT/MONITORS
Under monitors delete any traces with HP
7) Now navigate to HKLM/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL SET/CONTROL/PRINT/ENVIRONMENTS
Delete any traces with HP
8) Now navigate to HKLM/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL SET/CONTROL/PRINT/ENVIRONMENTS/DRIVERS
Delete any traces with HP.
9) Navigate to c:\windows\system32\spool. Delete all the contents listed under Spool folder.
11) Close all the windows and Restart the system in normal mode
12) Download the latest drivers from HP website and install them.


  • If a printer will not be removed from Printers and Devices it is because there is a stuck print job in the print queue
  • If a print job is stuck in queue and will not be removed (even by restarting the computer) a System Restore was the only way I found to remove the stuck job

VDI

Printer keeps switching to the default printer

  1. Remove the printer and restart the VDI

  • You can install print drivers locally if VPN printing has been setup between company network and VDI

Disable default printer from passing through to VDI

On the users Local Machine go to Regedit and add/change the following
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ThinPrint\Client

DefaultState REG_DWORD “0” (without quotes)

6.1 Clients and above

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ThinPrint\TPAutoConnect
Change the REG_DWORD value for UserDrivenDefaultprinter key to 1


Note:

A value of 1 sets the default printer in the View desktop to the default printer on the computer running the View Client.

A value of 0 disables this redirection.
